THIS LADY CALLED LOSS

SHE LOST IT ALL-

They say losses could be very painful, you know? Lot of individuals don’t remain themselves, mentally, after grieving a considerable loss. The drowning depression, the guilt of ‘I should have done this better, maybe things wouldn’t have gone south’. You begin to question your existence on earth and why you have been chosen to experience this tragedy. You feel like a failure because you couldn’t do anything to help the situation. Not only that, but you want to stop the pain, but you can’t help yourself.

This was Bianca Nelson’s ordeal after she experienced a trivial loss in her time.

Bianca was only 23 years old when her father passed away. She was the firstborn child of the wealthy CEO of J.J.K & SONS: A multi-million Naira brand that has attained visibility all over the globe (Mr. Nelson). Traditionally, a gigantic part of her father’s inheritance is transferred to her name as the eldest, including the managerial and directory role of his company.

Bianca wasn’t nascent of this. She was far from being a novice at this. She was ready. Not only that, but she has been preparing to take on this role all her life. Likewise, she was robbed off her childhood dreams for this role. Furthermore, she was aware of every nitty-gritty involved in this business!

Three months of delving into this role, Bianca was thriving, exceedingly. She lived and breathed for this company. Her uptight nature made every staff work their butts off for the company. The company’s recognition grew with her efforts.

THE EVOLUTION-

One year had pasted with Bianca still blowing minds with her outraging performance as the CEO of J.J.K and SONS. She had won several awards, internationally, and locally, including: ‘Youngest successful entrepreneur of the year’. She was practically a role model to all in her time.

February 29th, 2010 would be a day that can never be wiped off Bianca’s memory, even if she developed amnesia. It was the beginning of the end for Bianca.

J.J.K and SONS was profoundly known for producing plastic products; containers, chairs, home utensils. Due to the continual increase in demand for these products in the market, materials for production gradually became limited. A ban was put on importation of materials presently in the country. Bianca’s hands were tied.

She called for a board meeting. The board members were perplexed because Bianca was known for ‘having everything figured out without seeking external opinions’. While the meeting, the marketing manager advise they seek assistance from a rival company that produced similar output. Of course, Bianca gave a stern look to such suggestion because she will never succumb to such idea, at first. She was egoistic. She dismissed the meeting, still pondering on the idea.

Days had gone by with everything still deteriorating. She had no option than to lay-low for assistance.

A meeting was scheduled between the two companies and a conclusion was drawn that the rival company will only supply them with materials if Bianca was willing to give 60% of their output to them to impersonate as the original makers of the product. Bianca scuffled to accept this deadly proposal but had no choice than to carry on with it because that was the only visible way to keep their company in the mouths of many.

Robinson plastics was the name of their opposition. With the contract signed, both companies were able to compete healthy in the market until J.J.K and SONS market became limited because of their major supply to Robinson plastics.

The contract was going to lapse in the next five years, and this was only the first half of the first year. Bianca knew her company won’t survive such unfavorable conditions until then. She thought they could scale through, little did she know. She was certain her company was going to crumble to the ground if something wasn’t done urgently. The bank was beginning to pay regular visits to the company. Staff began to send in resignation letters. The great J.J.K and SONS was falling.

The signed contract stated that no party was allowed to back off the initial plans, or else it was to result in an acquisition by the other party. Bianca thought to herself, ‘how did I get myself here? I had it all under control’.

THE REDEMPTION-

Bianca was seated in the balcony of her mother’s house, melancholic, and desolate. It was three months later and everything had gone bleak. Bianca was wallowing in depression. The feeling of lethargy had taken over. She lacked interest in everything. She would binge-watch a 12 hour movie, eat, and sleep. Furthermore, she had lost the battle. ‘Father’s legacy is gone!’ she would beat herself about it.

One morning, when she was about to take up in her inertia. Her uncle, the family’s attorney, paid her a visit. Her mother had to call on his attention because she couldn’t help her daughter out of her misery and she feared that her daughter might be suicidal.

Mr. Collins, her uncle, was so dear to her heart. She listened to his pep-talk of ‘how life is not a bed of roses…blah-blah-blah. We shouldn’t let our failures take us to such despair’. Bianca took his words to heart and decided to give life a second shot.

When he was about to leave, he dropped a key on the table for her. She reluctantly took the key, asking what it was for. And he told her that was the key to a hidden factory her father kept for a ‘time like this’. When it will be needed, mostly. Bianca screamed heartily out of joy.
